- All ancient champions are considerable threats in melee, wearing plate armour/chain mail and wielding well-enchanted, branded two-handed weapons, in addition to being able to haste themselves.
- Despite their deadliness and solid defenses, they don't have terribly high HP; The irresistible damage from Dispel Undead or Lee's Rapid Deconstruction in particular will take care of these very easily.

- Prior to 0.27, they could have one of two possible spell sets:
- Bolt of Draining (3d21), Stone Arrow (3d21), and Haste
- Iron Shot (3d26), Pain (d15), and Haste
