A svelte fighter-mage who wears a gold-rimmed monocle and seeks a suitable and worthy opponent. You likely do not fit the bill.
“I thoroughly disapprove of duels. I consider them unwise and I know they are dangerous. Also, sinful. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet retired spot and kill him.” |
Useful Info
Frederick the Vigilant is a dangerous unique caster. Although he's only fair in melee combat, the damage output of his spells is on par with Cerebov.

Tips & Tricks
- Try to fight him at close range, as his melee attacks are far less painful than his spells, or at extreme long range, popping Freezing Cloud or Poisonous Cloud and then backing away.
- You can pop a Conjure Flame in his way to nullify his Bolts of Cold and force him to move towards you. If he steps in it, even better! Rinse and repeat.
- He's vulnerable to silence. Just be aware that the aura from a scroll will not be very large.
History
In 0.16, Frederick will be changed to a demigod and given a few other tweaks.
In early versions of DCSS, he was known as Adolf.
