A svelte fighter-mage who wears a gold-rimmed monocle and seeks a suitable and worthy opponent. You likely do not fit the bill.

“I thoroughly disapprove of duels. I consider them unwise and I know they are dangerous. Also, sinful. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet retired spot and kill him.”
-Mark Twain, _Autobiography of Mark Twain_. 1924.

Useful Info

Frederick the Vigilant is a dangerous unique human caster. Although he's only fair in melee combat, the damage output of his spells is on par with Cerebov.

Spells

Slot1 Iskenderun's Mystic Blast (3d25)
Slot2 Bolt of Cold (3d30)
Slot3 Invisibility
Slot4 none
Slot5 Iron Shot (3d36)
Slot6 Invisibility

Tips & Tricks

  • Try to fight him at close range, as his melee attacks are far less painful than his spells, or at extreme long range, popping Freezing Cloud or Poisonous Cloud and then backing away. If you can hit him with a curare needle first, this kiting process will be even easier.
  • While cold resistance will certainly help protect you from his Bolts of Cold, his Iron Shots are going to be a hazard regardless. Repel/Deflect Missiles will greatly reduce the threat from his spells, as will high evasion or a good shield.
  • He's vulnerable to silence. Just be aware that the aura from a scroll will not be very large.

History

In 0.16, Frederick will be changed to a demigod and given a few other tweaks.

In early versions of DCSS, he was known as Adolf.
