A suit of armour made from the stiff and knobbly skin of a troll. It magically regenerates its wearer's flesh. "THE TROLL KING: Now, listen, Prince Peer, and give way to reason! Troll leather armour is one of the lightest armours in the game, providing slightly more defense than leather armour with no additional encumbrance rating. It also provides a +80 bonus to the wearer's regeneration rate. This regeneration bonus does not apply while under [Inhibited Regeneration|-Regen]].

This armour isn't likely to spawn in the Dungeon, but you can get one at random by slaying virtually any troll. Different varieties of troll will drop different-coloured armour, but all troll leather armour works the same. The unique trolls Purgy and Snorg may drop hides that are already enchanted, while the moon troll of Lehudib's Moon Base will drop the Moon troll leather armour (or an artefact troll armour, if you've already found it).

Note that despite its similarity in name to the less-universally-wearable leather armour, troll leather armour can be worn by any character that can wear body armour, not just small and medium species.

Desirability

Decent. Troll leather armour is better than comparable mundane armours, though inferior to all of the dragon scales while providing no resistances. Its regeneration boost is equivalent to that of an amulet of regeneration, which is arguably better than a couple of AC.

As most characters can nearly eliminate its armour penalty, it works best for characters who need to be largely unencumbered. A set of dragon scales might be a better choice later on, but are worse when don't have many scrolls to enchant them. Ogres, trolls, and spriggans who have yet to find dragon scales also appreciate something heavier to wear.

• Prior to 0.19, this item could be created by using a scroll of enchant armour on a troll hide.
• Prior to 0.18, wearing this armour increased the rate at which the player grew hungry.
• Prior to 0.17, player Trolls didn't get a regen bonus for wearing troll leather armour.
• Prior to 0.14, troll leather armour only provided +30 regeneration rate.
