Spell noise is the noise generated when casting spells.

How noise is determined
+
Components
There is a casting noise that will be made at the caster's position.
+
Spell noise is made up of two components. One component is the noise created at the caster's location from reciting the spell. This noise, called the casting noise, is usually equal to the spell level of the spell being cast. The only exceptions are the spells Ensorcelled Hibernation, Passwall, and Silence, which are silent and have no casting noise.

A second source of noise is the spell itself. The noise will be made at the target's position. Some spells don't make any noise at all, like Bolt of Draining, and they end up with a noise of 0. For bolt spells, the noise is made at each square where it hits a monster, and the last square the spell reached even if it doesn't hit anything.
+
A second source of noise is the effect of the spell, called the effect noise. The noise will be made at the target's position. Many spells, e.g. most Summoning and Forgecraft spells which create allies, have no effect noise.

+
For spells with a delayed effect, such as Fulminant Prism or Fortress Blast, the effect noise is made when the main effect of the spell (in these cases, the explosion) occurs.

Version 0.33: This article is up to date for the latest stable release of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.

Spell noise is the noise generated when casting spells.

Components

Spell noise is made up of two components. One component is the noise created at the caster's location from reciting the spell. This noise, called the casting noise, is usually equal to the spell level of the spell being cast. The only exceptions are the spells Ensorcelled Hibernation, Passwall, and Silence, which are silent and have no casting noise.

A second source of noise is the effect of the spell, called the effect noise. The noise will be made at the target's position. Many spells, e.g. most Summoning and Forgecraft spells which create allies, have no effect noise.

For spells with a delayed effect, such as Fulminant Prism or Fortress Blast, the effect noise is made when the main effect of the spell (in these cases, the explosion) occurs.

Effect noise

The below table lists all spells which have non-zero effect noise.
