'''Dire flails''' have a fairly low base delay considering their damage output, although they are two-handed. If you're a mace user and haven't yet found a shield, consider using one even if you are planning to ultimately go for a one-handed weapon. It has better damage output than all one-handed maces except [[eveningstar]]s and [[demon whip]]s, both of which are quite rare.

Dire flails deal high damage and have a fairly low base delay, although they are two-handed.

Strategy

A good earlygame weapon for Maces & Flails users. They are great weapons at low skill. Despite being two-handed, dire flails attack harder and faster than either maces or flails. It takes less skill to reach a "reasonable delay" than your one-handed options.

If you are a Maces & Flails user who hasn't found a shield yet, there's little reason not to use a dire flail. Even if you have found a shield, a dire flail can remain competitive at low weapon skill.
