Statues can be found all throughout the Dungeon. Most of them are harmless, but some contain dangerous traps or actively try to kill you. While each kind of statue behaves in a unique way, they are most easily divided into inanimate statues (which are treated like dungeon features) and animated statue monsters (which aggressively attack you and can be destroyed). Whether animate or not, all statues are completely immobile, and if a statue is capable of attacking you, the game will auto-exclude all tiles in their LOS to keep you you from accidentally wandering into danger.
All statues behave much like transparent walls, being a barrier to fire but not visibility; unlike transparent walls, they are not a barrier to reaching or smite-targeted attacks. They are not affected by Dig or a wand of digging, but may be susceptible to disintegration. Hostile statues do not regenerate HP, so even if you are forced to retreat, you may come back and try to destroy it after you've healed.

Inanimate Statues
Inanimate statues, while unaffected by physical attack, are susceptible to disintegration, Orb of Destruction, Lee's Rapid Deconstruction, and Shatter.
- Granite statues come in a variety of shapes, often resembling dangerous monsters, but pose no risk; at worst they may prevent you from reaching a shop or pile of treasure.
- Scorch marked granite statues are just like granite statues, except that they are found in areas where flame clouds sporadically appear. They do not actually cause these clouds, so while you can destroy them, doing so accomplishes nothing toward making the area safer.
- Gravestones are generally found in special vaults or portal levels (like Zonguldrok's Mausoleum). If they show up in the main dungeon, it's a sure sign that the undead are wandering the level.
A nameless grave. The question remains: is it the grave that is nameless, or the person who lies in that grave?
- Orcish idols are like granite statues, but destroying them will annoy Beogh. When annoyed, Beogh will smite you 100% of the time if you're one of his followers, 50% of the time if you're a hill orc, or 33% otherwise. Always look at the description of a statue before destroying it, just in case.
- Sarcophagi are found in The Tomb and behave like granite statues.
- Elephant-shaped statues are inanimate lumps of stone occasionally found in the temple of Lair:8. They do nothing until you kill the anaconda in the back of the temple, at which point several of them will come to life and attack you as dire elephants. Be sure to close doors behind you as you explore; this will allow you to only face a few of them at a time.
- Iron statues are found only in the Iron City of Dis and are completely indestructible.
Monster Statues
Hostile statues are rare, and most often are found as part of a vault. Most animate statues have elemental resistance or immunity. Certain dangerous statues are susceptible to a wand of disintegration, but most of them are unaffected. All can be taken down by physical attacks or spells: eg, Lee's Rapid Deconstruction, Shatter, Orb of Destruction.
8 Pillar of salt- The consecrated remains of an unfortunate demon or undead that suffered the wrath of Zin.
8 Training dummy- A harmless, fragile statue found only in the Tutorial and a few vaults.
8 Charred statue- A statue that guards an altar to Vehumet. Casts Throw Flame.
Frost covered statue - A statue that guards an altar to Vehumet. Casts Throw Frost.
8 Lightning spire- An arcane construct that hurls bolts of lightning at passersby.
8 Ice statue- Commonly found in Ice Caves, these frozen sculptures summon ice beasts and hurl powerful blasts of ice. Vulnerable to fire.
8 Orange crystal statue- These statues attack the mind, inflicting Divinations miscast effects. Vulnerable to disintegration.
8 Silver statue- Statues that summon a variety of demons. Vulnerable to disintegration.
8 Firespitter statue- Fire-spewing statues found guarding treasure vaults in Volcanoes.
Warrior statue - A statue armed with a melee weapon. Its builders placed it in a location where intruders would have to walk past it.
8 Lasher statue- Whip-wielding statues found in narrow hallways.
8 Archer statue- Statues armed with bows or longbows and a generous supply of arrows. Often located behind bushes.
8 Conjurer statue- Statues that hurl Orbs of Destruction.
8 Wizard statue- Arcane statues that cast a variety of powerful spells.
8 Zot statue- Brutal statues found only in Dungeon Sprint. They summon in creatures found among the worst of the worst.
8 Diamond obelisk- Surrounded by a constant Tornado effect, these solid pieces of diamond are virtually indestructible.
Unique Statues
8 Roxanne- An Earth Elementalist who accidentally turned herself into a statue. She forces her opponents to blink into range of her powerful spells.
8 The Statue of Wucad Mu - An orange crystal statue carved into the likeness of the famed monk and placed in the center of his monastery. No less vulnerable to disintegration than other orange crystal statues.
Retired Statues
8 Snail statue- An idol of Cheibriados that would repeatedly cast Leda's Liquefaction.
8 Spooky statue - Eerie statues that guarded certain vaults in The Crypt. Their presence summoned ghosts to attack intruders.
Other immobile monsters
Certain types of plants are immobile and may create movement exclusion zones when discovered, but unlike statues, they are not nonliving and regenerate HP when injured.
