A magical weapon with twin razor-sharp blades. According to legend, a knight once suggested the idea of a double-bladed sword to a master forger as a joke, but was pleasantly surprised to find that not only was the forger capable of making such a sword, but that the weapon produced was extremely deadly.

This weapon falls into the Long Blades category. It is a one handed weapon, and it is best used by the dexterous.

Despite its ridiculous concept, the rare double sword is an desirable weapon for any character looking to wear a shield while still doing heavy damage in melee combat, as it has an excellent base damage of 15. The only one-handed weapon with similar base damage is the eveningstar, which is similarly rare (and scales with strength rather than dexterity).

If both weapons are at mindelay, the demon blade is slightly stronger (1% stronger) than the double sword at 0 AC. As the demon blade attacks faster, it is impacted more by AC, slaying, and auxillary attacks. Usually, the sword you get first is the sword that you'll use, since either weapon with a decent brand and +9 enchantment is good enough to win the game.

History

• In 0.29, Long Blades now scale with dexterity rather than strength.
• Double swords had riposte and 14 base damage in 0.19, then back to 15 damage and no riposte in 0.28.
• Double swords were renamed to bastard swords in 0.14, then back to double swords in 0.16.
