Version 0.26: This article may not be up to date for the latest stable release of Crawl.
Ice Elementalists are magicians who have specialised in ice, one of the four types of elemental magic. The spells in their library are quite verstile.

Preferred Races

Merfolk, Gargoyle, Draconian, Deep Elf, Demigod, and Naga are the recommended races if you pick an Ice Elementalist Background.

Starting Equipment

Some species may receive different items based on their unique restrictions.

Available Spells:

Ice elementalists start with the Freeze spell already memorised.

Starting Skills and Stats

These are adjusted by your species' aptitudes.

Choosing Ice Elementalist adds 7 to your starting Intelligence and 5 to your starting Dexterity.

Strategy

A strong choice; their starting book offers you an excellent repitore. Freeze is a powerful level 1 attack spell, ignoring both AC and EV to never miss. However, feel free to use whatever stones, tomahawks, javelins, and dartss you find in order to compensate for its 1-tile range. Frozen Ramparts is a very strong spell, dealing strong and guaranteed AOE damage as long as you can survive a few hits without moving. Ozocubu's Armour may give you just the defense you need. Summon Ice Beast caps out the Ice Elementalist's book with a strong summon spell that remains effective throughout the Lair and its branches. Hailstorm has an awkward range, but allows you to deal extra damage at range.

These articles refer to the upcoming version, at this point in time 0.32. They are gathered here so that, when it is released, they can be quickly updated to reflect the changes, and not retain future-tense sections referring to the present.

When a new version comes out, update the articles in this category, and them remove them from it. Mostly this will just involve a few tense changes.

Remember to remove the "[[Category:Crystal Ball Articles]]" from the bottom of the page when you're done updating an article. Or just use Template:CBA, which adds the category tag automatically.
