A small, double-edged blade with a short grip. Robust and easy to handle, this weapon is often found in the hands of those who wish to stab their foes unaware.
"Who was the first that forged the deadly blade? -Albius Tibullus, _Elegies_ I, xi. ca. 25 B.C. trans. James Grainger, 1822. |
This weapon falls into the 'Short Blades' category. It is a one handed weapon, and it is better for the dexterous.
The short sword is a common weapon in the Short Blades category. Many backgrounds have a short sword as a choice of weapon, and early monsters (such as kobolds, goblins and orcs) often wield one too. The short sword is more powerful but slightly less accurate than a dagger, and is surpassed by the sabre and quick blade.
