Useful Info
Deep elf mages are flimsy but unpredictable deep elf casters, capable of hitting you with a wide variety of spells, though at reassuringly low spell power. While never harmless, they pale in comparison to some of the deadlier deep elf varieties. They can be found roaming the middle floors of the Dungeon on their own, and often appear in packs with other deep elves in the Elven Halls and some baileys.

Although far from harmless, prioritize taking out the other deep elves before attacking these.
Trivia
In late December, online Crawl servers give these opponents festive Santa hats. Why a mere elf would be wearing a Santa hat is beyond me.
History
Prior to 0.13, deep elf mages had spell sets identical to a wizard's, including such devastating spells as Banishment and Lehudib's Crystal Spear.
