Shortbows are a starter ranged weapon, stronger than a sling, but requiring two hands to wield. You'll likely want to upgrade to a longbow quickly, unless you are a spriggan. You can find shortbows on centaurs throughout the game; sometimes, they'll even be enchanted.

• Prior to 0.29, shortbows had a base delay of 13 (mindelay of 6 at skill 14), used the Bows skill, and required arrows. They were also affected by the ranged weapons rework of this version.
