Version 0.13: This article may not be up to date for the latest stable release of Crawl.
- This page is a stub. You could probably expand this page should you wish to do so.
- This page is about the player species. For the monster, see Gargoyle (monster).
A cross between ordinary stone gargoyles and living beings, Gargoyles are hideous humanoids with an affinity to rock. They are able to assume full stone form at will, which grants them great hardness for a time. When this hardness wears off, however, it briefly makes them helplessly immobile, and then leaves them mobile but debilitated for awhile.
Contents
Innate Abilities
- Resistances: Petrification Resistance, one level of life protection, and one level of cold resistance
- Auxiliary attacks: two levels of claws, one level of fangs, and two levels of talons
- Slow Metabolism 1
- Self Petrify ability. While petrifying, Gargoyles get three important bonuses:
- They don't suffer any speed penalties, except a special one to their movement speed (-3).
- Any incoming damage is halved, but this can cause the temporary loss of 1-4 stat points.
- The petrification is slower.
Preferred backgrounds
Gargoyles are recommended for the following backgrounds:
- Warriors: Monk, Hunter, Assassin
- Adventurers: Artificer
- Zealots: Priest, Healer
- Warrior-mages: Skald, Transmuter, Warper, Arcane Marksman, Enchanter
- Mages: Wizard, Conjurer, Summoner, Necromancer, Fire Elementalist, Ice Elementalist, Earth Elementalist, Venom Mage
Due to their artificial nature, gargoyles are prohibited from becoming Death Knights.
Level bonuses
- Gargoyles get a Strength or Intelligence (equal chance) increase every 4 levels starting at level 4.
- Gargoyles have 10% more HP than average.
- Gargoyles have average MP.
- Gargoyles gain 3 magic resistance per level.
- At level 7 and 13, the power of their self-petrify ability is improved (the petrification is slower).
Starting skills and equipment
Gargoyles receive the skills and equipment listed for their background and a potion of restore abilities.
