As far as Maces & Flails go, morningstars are pretty sub-par. While they're somewhat more powerful than flails, they are considerably less accurate, and weapons like demon whips and eveningstars completely outperform them.

With the removal of spiked flails, morningstars became the most powerful common one-handed mace. They were significantly buffed in the process, giving them the best damage of all the common one-handed weapons, although no special abilities such as cleaving or reaching.  They are reasonable weapons to use until you find an eveningstar or a demon whip, but those planning to go for 2-handed maces will probably prefer either a dire flail or (for large characters) a giant club as an intermediate weapon.

A mace with a head covered in short spikes. Trading increased force for only slightly reduced manoeuvrability, this weapon can be deadly in the hands of a well-trained combatant.

"Little did then his pomp of plumes bestead
The Azteca, or glittering pride of gold.
Against the tempered sword; little his casque,
Cay with its feathery coronal, or drest
In graven terrors, when the Briton's hand
Drove in through helm and head the spiked mace;
Or swung its iron weights in shattering sway.
Which, where they fell, destroyed.

-Robert Southey, "Madoc". 1805

This weapon falls into the 'Maces & Flails' category. It is a one handed weapon, and it is better for the strong.
