A hunting weapon consisting of a balanced wooden shaft with a pointed metal head fastened on one end. Shorter than other polearms, it can be wielded with one or two hands and is also light enough to be thrown. "The halberd is inferior to the spear on the battlefield. This weapon falls into the Polearms category. It is a one handed weapon.

Spears are decent enough weapons in the early game for either melee or throwing. However, you'll want to upgrade to a trident as soon as possible. If you're looking to start using Polearms, you can probably get at least one spear off of a gnoll pack in the early dungeon.

History

In 0.9 and earlier versions, these did 7 base damage but lacked innate reaching. In 0.14, the unrand version of Lehudib's Crystal Spear will be removed, as spears will no longer be throwable.
