Ice Form Ice Form is a level 4 Ice Magic/Transmutations spell which transforms you into an ice beast, giving you a body made of ice.
Transmuters begin with this spell available.
Effect
You gain the following:
Pros:
- rC+++
- Poison resistance
- +5-17 AC (amount dependent on spell power)
- +20% max HP
- Enhanced Unarmed Combat
- Amphibious - can swim through deep water, resists Primal Wave
- Unbreathing and lacks blood
Cons:
- Fire vulnerability
- Become a target for Lee's Rapid Deconstruction
- All equipment except for rings and amulets meld into you, losing all effect
- You cannot use weapons or throw projectiles
Like all form changing spells, mummies, ghouls, and bloodless vampires cannot use this spell.
Strategy
- With bonuses to HP, AC, and multiple resistances, Ice Form can make a flimsy caster significantly more durable (so long as you watch out for fire attacks). Transmuters won't mind the loss of equipment as much, since they often focus on Unarmed Combat and Dodging.
- The resistances provided make the caster capable of using Mephitic Cloud and Freezing Cloud without fear of injuring themself.
- It is a strong form throughout the Lair. Your freezing attacks will slow cold-blooded creatures, which are very plentiful. You don't have blood, preventing skysharks from activating their bloodzerk. While your (relatively) low AC makes fighting hydras dubious, you can at least slow them and run away.
- Can also be useful in the Swamp, as it gives rPois and allows you to travel through water. It is less useful in the Shoals; although the rC+++ and Primal Wave resistance helps against merfolk aquamancers and Ilsuiw, you'll have to watch out for silver javelins, which deal extra damage against any transformation.
History
- Prior to 0.27, Ice Form recieved less AC as the spell gained power.
- Prior to 0.22, Ice Form prevented usage of wands.
- Prior to 0.17, Ice Form increased the AC bonus from Ozocubu's Armour.
- Prior to the changes to butchering in 0.12, Ice Form was an option for players that needed to butcher a corpse but were unable to (due to a cursed blunt weapon).
- Prior to 0.9, Ice Form also provided conservation for the player's currently held potions.
- Prior to 0.6, Ice Form did not allow you to butcher while unarmed.
