Skill titles

Version 0.33: This article is up to date for the latest stable release of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.

Your character will be given a skill title based on their current skill set. To determine the title, a character's skills are placed into five tiers: Lvl 1-7, 8-14, 15-20, 21-26, and 27. Your character's title is determined by their highest skill -- any time a different skill surpasses your current highest skill, your title will change to reflect it. Your title will also change when your current highest skill reaches a new tier. The first skill to reach level 27 will determine your character's final title.

Nagas and Armataurs), and Heavy (Oni and Trolls).

**** The invocations titles above will be used if the character is currently following no god. A skilled Invocations-user will otherwise use the title assigned by their god and piety level, such as "Missionary" for 3-star Beogh. A table for this can be found below.

Invocations Titles

Titles for the invocations skill depend on piety level and god being worshipped. Gods which don't require training Invocations still have titles based on them, although will mostly only be encountered when playing as a Gnoll.

• Prior to 0.33, abandoning a god while having Invocations as your highest skill gave you an atheist Invocations title instead of a penance title. Also, several custom titles were added in this version: Oni got Yokozuna, Brimstone Smiter, and Titancaster. Coglins got Necromech. Two new species, Poltergeists and Revenants, each came with a few custom titles. Additionally, three species got unique Walking titles: Barachim, Spriggans, and Djinn.
• Prior to 0.32, certain gods had different Invocations titles:
  • Yredelemnul did not use a standard piety system, so its titles were based on Invocations skill. These titles were Traitor (penance), Tainted (0-7), Torchbearer (8-11), Fey <foo> (12-15), Black Crusader (16-19), Sculptor of Flesh (20-23), Harbinger of Death (24-26), Grim Reaper (27).
  • Beogh's titles were Apostate, Messenger, Proselytiser, Priest, Missionary, Evangelist, Apostle, and Messiah.
  • Dithmenos' titles were Ember, Gloomy, Darkened, Extinguished, Caliginous, Umbral, Hand of Shadow, and Eternal Night.
  • Kikubaaqudgha's titles were Tormented, Purveyor of Pain, Scholar of Death, Merchant of Misery, Artisan of Death, Dealer of Despair, Black Sun, and Lord of Darkness.
• Prior to 0.31, 27 Evocations gave the "Talismancer" title.
